Learning by dwelling, understanding through writing: an outreach experience at the Rio Grande prison in Tierra del Fuego

The aim of this paper is to analyse the fieldwork experience of the team that participated in the Outreach Project named “Cinema and Ethnography” developed from August until November 2019 in Rio Grande Penitentiary in Tierra del Fuego. First, there is a description of the context where the project originated, its characteristics, objectives and activities; and there is also a description of the members of the project and the recipients. Second, the context of the field and space-time framework of the experience in the prison based on an analysis of the field records of the members of the project is presented. Hospitality and commensalism relationship including exchanges of gifts and reciprocities between members of the project and imprisoned -exchanges that operate within the framework of the territorialities instituted in the prison context- are described in this paper.
