Abstract

Despite their very wide differences, debates on the nature of Latin American dictatorial regimes have sought to account for a series of interpretative keys that focus strongly on what are considered to be their common features. In this paper we will review the main contributions to these debates, selecting the most significant contributions that allow us to account for the ways in which the notions of authoritarianism, nationalism, and fascism have been used to explain the nature and ideological orientations of the dictatorial regimes of the Southern Cone.
