Abstract

In this paper we analyzed the ways in which social inequalities are expressed within the wage-earning and salaried population of Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur, in the years 2014-2015, and we built, from a typology of inequalities, a classification scheme of the predominant social profiles in the provincial socio-occupational structure. We intend to describe this by pinpointing the factors that explain the dynamics of social inequality within the wage-earning and salaried population of Tierra del Fuego, through the analysis of the predominant social profiles and the characteristics they possess.

In order to carry out this research, we produced an articulated typology, combining correspondence analysis techniques and classification analysis techniques. Regarding our findings, on the one hand, we observed that the precariousness-quality factor of the job positions explains a large part of the inertia among Fuegian employees. On the other hand, when we analyzed social profiles we observed the central presence of manufacturing workers, and the minority presence (separated from the rest of the wage-earning and salaried population) of house cleaners and young peo- ple in low-quality jobs.
